Amanda Winterhalter with Tony Fulgham

A life between grey coastlines and ragged mountains gave Amanda Winterhalter a scope for the gothic Americana music she creates with her Seattle-based band. Joined by Geoff Larson on upright bass, Nick Drozdowicz on electric guitar, Rick Weber on drums, and Ed Brooks on pedal steel, the band showcases an arcing sound that weaves together threads of 1960s girl group AM pop, gritty indie Americana, and blues-tinged southern rock. Their diverse range informs a new Americana that connects with the heart and mind as quickly as the ears.

Smith & Tegio with Ian Jones

Smith and Tegio is the musical project of long time friends and songwriting partners, Austin Smith and Mark Tegio.

Austin and Mark met through a mutual friend in their late teens in San Diego, CA. Their friend owned a skate shop where they would skateboard out back during the day and play music and share songs at night. These years were filled with musical exploration for the two. By introducing each other to singer-songwriters such as Townes Van Zandt, Blaze Foley and Tom Waits, among many others, they laid the groundwork for what was to come. And although these years were formative, it wasn’t until years later that the two truly started to mesh musically and find their own voices as guitar players and lyricists.

In his early 20’s Austin moved up to San Francisco to pursue music and played with several local bands. Mark soon made his way up there as well, but to pursue academics. However most of Mark’s time was spent avoiding study and instead playing music and writing songs with Austin. It was in these “woodshed years” that the two started to truly develop their fingerpicking guitar and singing styles. The fact that they developed these skills simultaneously, with help and encouragement of each other, lent itself to the ease and fluidity with which they play and sing together today.

Shortly after Mark graduated the two started pursuing music more seriously, releasing their first album and touring the western United States. Though they initially started as a duo the two have recently been accompanied by a band composed of pedal steel and stand-up bass giving a country tone to their acoustic guitar and lyrically focused folk songs.

Despite the two now living in different states, Mark in Portland, OR and Austin in Santa Cruz, CA it hasn’t stopped their love of touring and playing music together. They are currently working on releasing their second album in 2022.

Society of the Silver Cross and Mountain Holler

Society of the Silver Cross -

Seattle band Society of the Silver Cross’s debut album ‘1 Verse’ is an epic musical journey crossing over to mystical landscapes and otherworldly terrains, while playing with concepts of life and death, shadows and light and going beyond the veil. Songwriters Joe Reineke and Karyn Gold-Reineke score lush, bombastic and ethereal layers of instrumentation with chant-like vocals at times. Their unique songwriting style is inspired by the textures and melodies of India, blending an ode to hypnosis with a touch of goth and twisted americana. The sound has been described as haunting, gothic graceland, funeral home rock and even “yogic metal”. The 405 said that “1 Verse” is “One of the year’s most unique and compelling debuts”

Mountain Holler -

Music as ritual—that’s what Mountain Holler creates. Much like the name, the voice of the project is both powerful and primeval. The moniker of St. Petersburg, Florida multi-instrumentalist and vocalist Mark Etherington, Mountain Holler pairs intricate acoustics with haunting, other-worldly vocals. It’s a layered mélange, one that evokes deep emotions and transcendent daydreams.

Weaned on Ravi Shankar and acoustic Zeppelin, Etherington also integrates contemporary influences like Devendra Banhart and Fleet Foxes into his sound. Now rooted in the cooler climes of Seattle, Mountain Holler continues to evolve. The Stranger writes that Etherington “murmurs, moans, belts, and croons ethereal yet powerfully-charged melodies that sound as if they were hewn from some rocky outcropping before their journey to the heavens.”

Indeed, Mountain Holler’s songs are reflections on nature’s beauty and truth as well as the pursuit of spiritual awareness. Resolutely DIY, Etherington continually brings his mystical melodies to venues and festivals across the United States. Mountain Holler’s trance-inducing performances never fail to take audiences on an inward journey.

Spindrift, Silver Triplets of the Rio Hondo & Kevin Murphy (Moondoggies)

Underwood Stables Presents: An Intimate Evening with the Old West

Spindrift (LA)
Spindrift is an American psychedelic rock band, created by singer-songwriter-composer-producer-actor Kirpatrick Thomas. Founded in 1992, the band originated in Newark, Delaware along with such other local bands of the period including Jake and the Stiffs, The Verge, Boy Sets Fire, Zen Guerilla and Smashing Orange. http://spindriftwest.com/wp/

Silver Triplets of the Rio Hondo (Portland)
Silver Triplets of Rio Hondo caught me by surprise - The haunted Old West answering the Ballads of Lee Hazlewood, Scott Walker, and Captain Beefheart. William Slater's canyon voice and poetic lyric cradled with the avant-garde accompaniment of Haven Multz Matthews and Christo Cook brings the music to a Psychedelic Sci-Fi Radio Show hosted by a Kaleidoscopic crooner. The showmanship is charming, the lyrics deeply rooted, and the experience is unforgettable. RHawthorne

Willy Tea Taylor and Sam Chase with Guest: Tommy Alexander

https://willyteataylor.com/

“Willy grew up surrounded by rolling hills and horses in the small town of Oakdale, California. Known as the “Cowboy Capital of the World” for breeding so many world champion rodeo cowboys, Oakdale is still Willy’s home and the setting for many of his songs.

Despite coming from a long line of cattlemen – his grandfather Walt was one of the most respected of his generation – Willy’s first love was baseball. As a catcher, he had a gift for the nuances of calling a game from behind the plate. When a knee injury ended his ability to catch, Willy turned his attention to music.

At the age of 18, a discerning and intimate set by Greg Brown at the Strawberry Music Festival inspired Willy to pursue life as a folk singer. Strawberry would play an integral role in Willy’s development as a musician, going from spectator to stagehand, to performer. He made his main stage debut with his band the Good Luck Thrift Store Outfit at the 2009 festival. In 2015, Willy made his solo debut on the main stage. Willy has charmed fans at some of the best festivals in the country.”

The Sam Chase & The Untraditional hails from San Francisco, California. This juggernaut of a band blends rock n roll with folk music while maintaining the sensibilities and attitudes that come from growing up on a healthy diet of punk rock.

The leader of the band is The Sam Chase himself, a natural storyteller with a voice that sounds as if it has weathered many an epic tale.  With boot stomping orchestration and lyrics that have been immortalized on the tattooed skin of their fans, The Sam Chase & The Untraditional doesn’t mess around. These are the warriors we need in these troubled times.

Tommy Alexander - https://tommyalexander.bandcamp.com/

“Alexander creates a unique, infectious indie rock style all his own. His honest and heartfelt lyricism come to life in his songs which will strike a chord with you the very first listen.”

Rob Moir, Amsellem and Michael Compton

An Intimate Evening with these Artists

Rob Moir - In 2013, Moir released the critically acclaimed LP Places To Die, of which Rolling Stone wrote in their 4 star album review, "Moir isn't conservative; there's something urgent in his songs, that are never too sure of themselves, and whose longing hasn’t found a home yet. Moir sings his romantic sighing songs with punk rock folk in his heart and in addition proves a great sense for quiet singer/songwriter moment”.

2015 saw his second album Adventure Handbook, a burst of life and energy backed by his Toronto band The Great Lates. Once again, Rolling Stone commented on the full band release, "Moir's compositions are now so confident they go straight to your heart".

Moir has toured Europe with Grammy-nominated Neko Case and shared the stage with fellow alt-folk artists such as Frightened RabbitFrank Turner and The White Buffalo. With solo performances at international festivals BIGSOUNDMusic Matters and Live at Heart, as well as multiple successful tours in Australia, Canada, Europe, UK and Japan, Moir has proven his ability to silence rowdy audiences with his intimate performances, quick humour, and captivating stage presence.

Perpetually on the lonesome road, Rob continues to expand his audience as he performs his songs across the world, making fans the old fashioned way - one dedicated believer at a time.

“Amsellem", which translates from Hebrew as "People of Peace", is the indie/folk/rock musical project created by Daniel Amsellem in his hometown of Ashdod, Israel in 2017. The project started with an acoustic guitar, dynamic microphone and a loop station, and carried on to a full array of instruments with unique arrangements and intimate while powerful songs that come from true feeling.

"In/Out" is Amsellem's debut album. this concept album is formed out of 10 songs that split into 3 parts of a story – betraying trust, hurting, and reconciling.

The album is a collection of experiences and memories from a 5-year relation between himself and a lost love. starting with anger and disappointment and ending with a catharsis and peace of mind, the album truly depicts a whirlpool of emotions as it goes on.
